Writing Center Policies

Appointments

The Writing Center Staff would like to help as many students as possible. In order to effectively provide the best service we can, please remember to do the following things:

1. Be on time. If you have not shown up within ten minutes of your scheduled time, your time will be given to another student.

2. If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, make sure to cancel it on our web-based scheduler (click). Instructions for cancelling are posted at the top of the scheduler homepage. You may also call us during business hours to cancel an appointment.

3. If you do not show up, call, or reschedule an appointment three times in a semester, you will be unable to schedule appointments for the remainder of the semester.

4. Appointments are limited to one per day and three per week, unless pre-approved by a co-coordinator.

5. All online tutorials must be 60-minute appointments.

Conduct

The Quality Writing Center expects those who use our services to respect the rights of others. Responsible conduct is required. Individuals who engage in unacceptable behavior--such as physical and/or verbal abuse--may lose their writing center privileges and/or be subject to university disciplinary action.

Please turn off your cell phone before your appointment begins.

Academic Honesty

Individuals participating in tutorials in the Quality Writing Center are expected to comply with the university's policy on academic honesty; in other words, writers should acknowledge sources for ideas and arguments not their own. Through tutorials and handouts, faculty and tutors in the QWC help writers master skills for incorporating outside sources and providing proper documentation.

What We Do and Don't Do

Our services don't include editing or proofreading; however, our tutors can help you learn how to revise and proofread your own work. For a complete description of how we can help you, see our "What We Do" page.
