FM Planning Group directs a broad range of planning issues, including land use and master planning, campus development standards, landscape design, transportation planning, resource allocation oversight, and facilities assessments. This group is the source for strategic and physical planning at the University of Arkansas, and ensures that all projects support the academic goals of the University and promote the highest physical potential of the Fayetteville campus. Garland Center is a new shopping destination on the University of Arkansas campus. Conveniently located on Arkansas Highway 112, Garland Center will include a new 30,000 sf University of Arkansas Bookstore and Razorback Shop and 20,000 sf of retail stores in a building of terracotta baguettes, cement panels, exposed steel, and glass. Garland Avenue Parking Garage will have over 1500 spaces on five levels, with vehicular access from Cleveland Street and Lindell Avenue. Razorback Transit will stop on Garland in front of the retail shops.

The leasing agent is Alan Cole of Colliers International 479-636-9000.

The Center will open summer 2010.

Capital Project Performance Evaluations - On Friday, August 7, 2009, the University of Arkansas unveiled a new performance evaluation process for contractors and design/professional services providers working on the Fayetteville campus. University of Arkansas Projects Receive Green Globes Designations
- The Green Building Initiative (GBI) recognized two University buildings for achieving official Green Globes® designations for sustainable design and construction. The Duncan Avenue Apartments and the Duncan Avenue Community Center were both recognized at an Earth Day ceremony. The design for each focuses on energy and water efficiency. The Duncan Avenue Apartments is the first apartment in the U.S. to be Green Globes certified.

Chemistry Building Renovation Earns Awards -
The $18 million dollar renovation of the historic Chemistry Building earned two regional awards. The renovation was named Best Education Building Project of 2007 by “McGraw Hill’s South Central Construction” magazine. The project has also been awarded an honorable mention for Excellence in Preservation Rehabilitation by the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas.

Getty Foundation Awards Heritage Grant - The University of Arkansas won a Campus Heritage grant from the Getty Foundation for $170,000 to develop a heritage preservation plan for the Fayetteville campus. With Getty support, the University will create a preservation master plan that will address planning needs and improve stewardship and preservation across campus. The work funded by the grant will provide an opportunity for the University to hire preservation consultants to develop a comprehensive strategy for long range planning and management of its historic resources as it plans for future development.
