The Arboretum Mapping Project was designed to locate and identify all trees within the two campus arboreta: the Old Main Arboretum (Old Main Lawn) and the Maple Hill Arboretum (in the declivity below the Poultry Science Building).

The locations of all 480 trees within the arboreta were collected using a GPS data logger.
Attributes such as common and scientific names, the diameter of the tree trunks, and presence
of a tag or monument were documented. Photographs were also taken of each tree during the survey.
You can view a picture of each tree by clicking on the HyperLink field value while using the Information tool of the arboretum viewer.
Tree identifications were made by an experienced Botany student from the Biological Sciences Department at the University of Arkansas. Click here for a summary table.
All data was incorporated within a GIS system and used in a web mapping application that can be queried along with other datasets (such as aerial photography and roads).
